Selfishness

Baby, I know it’s about compromise,

I know it’s about sharing,

I know it’s about us,

I have been doing this for most of my mature years,

But this is the era of selfishness,

The decade for me,

It’s unfair I met you young,

It’s unfair for me to expect you to understand,

It’s unfair for me to ask you to wait,

It’s unfair to choose what is unfair,

Both sides have parallel lows,

But these are the years for growth and independence,

I need to do this for me,

And I cannot compromise any more,

I cannot compromise the length,

I cannot compromise the experience,

I cannot compromise the opportunity,

Or hope of opportunities,

Sweetheart, I disagree,

I do not think it is selfish,

I do not think it is self-centered,

I think it is realistic,

And you of all could appreciate that,

I think it is an investment for my life.
